Book: Proverbs 2
“Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.”
My young adult sons enjoy playing board games. Every few months they will come home with a new game and want to show us how to play. As a father, I have learned that if I want to be able to win the game I need to be tuned in and concentrate on the instructions. I also have to ask many questions so I can figure out how best to play. During the game, every move my son makes I ponder why he made that move to see if there is something further I can learn. I want to play the game well… and yes win!
The first four verses of Proverbs 2 explains what it means to fear the Lord. Note the words he uses to describe the process; Listen, Tune your ears, concentrate, cry out, ask, search and seek. These are not passive words but rather action words with strong passion and intent towards wisdom, understanding, and insight of God. It is so important that time and energy is spent on this pursuit. The result is an understanding of what it means to fear the Lord and gain knowledge of God.
How are you learning what it means to fear the Lord? Do you have a deep passion to know God even more? I am reminded of Psalm 42:1 where it says,
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”
You may want to read the whole chapter of Psalm 42 prayerfully. Today cry out to him and seek Him like hidden treasure!
