For the King

Book: Proverbs 11

“A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.”

My grandfather use to turn out beautiful exotic wood pen stands and pin bowls. He enjoyed going out to his old chicken house that he had turned into a wood working room and spend hours shaping wood into incredible gifts for family and friends.

One day my grandfather was visiting a person who he had given in the past one of his pin bowls to as a gift. He was horrified to find that this person was not using it as it had been intended but instead was using it as an ash tray. Because of the ashes and burn marks on the wood, the former pin bowl was marked up and was not as attractive as it had been. From that day forward my grandfather was very careful who he gave one of his treasured pin bowls to.

God has made each of us special and His expectation is that we will live our lives for Him, the King. He has given us talents, abilities and yes, even beauty so that it might be used for the King. Lacking discretion is when the gifts, talents, and abilities are not used for this purpose. God sees it as “a gold ring in a pig’s snout.” It is inappropriate and not what it was made for. Just like the pin bowl being used incorrectly, it damages and takes away the value from the gift.

A person who fears God and uses all that they have been given to serve the King, will shine brightly and feel fulfilled because they are being who they were made to be. We were all made, and gifted to serve the King of Kings. He is fulfilling His age long story in which each of us has a role that He has specifically designed us to play. When we decided to step out of that story we are demonstrating lack of discretion.

Take time before the Lord to consider the gifts, ability, talents, resources, and beauty that He has given you and consider how you are using them for the King. Don’t assume that you are using discretion, instead ask Him if there are things he wants changed. Then invite Him in, to help you be all that He wants and made you to be.
