Sexual Conduct

Book: Proverbs 5

“Why spill the water of your springs in the streets having sex with just everyone?”

God’s wisdom reaches all aspects of our lives including sexual relationships. His perfect wisdom directs the wise to make the best choices for their lives and saves them many heart aches. In the first few chapters of Genesis, it is clear that marriage and sexual relationships inside of a husband and wife relationship is God’s idea therefore God’s wisdom. Anything outside of God’s wisdom is foolish.

In Hebrews 13:4 it says, “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.” Those are strong words.

Our society, which does not acknowledge God, His wisdom, or authority, has interpreted marriage relationships, loving relationships and sexual relationships to be something they were never intended to be. By taking the immovable foundation of God’s wisdom out of the picture, society has created sexual conduct that is self-focused and not God focused. Society itself encourages each person to be their own god, determining what is right and wrong, wisdom and foolishness, healthy and unhealthy. This leads to destruction of individuals, families and even societies. To think that God’s wisdom with regards to sexual conduct does not apply to any individual personally is gravely mistaken.

The apostle Paul wrote a letter to the followers of Jesus Christ who lived in Corinth. They had asked him some questions that they were struggling with as their society was so sexually focused. Some of the believers thought one way and others thought the other. Paul brings them back to God’s wisdom and says, “ Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) Paul made it very clear and wanted to make sure people were not fooled by the vice’s of that society.

As Kingdom builders, it is important that we follow the Kings wisdom. It is not to hold us back from something good but rather to ensure His very best for our lives. He has given wisdom with regards to our sexual conduct. You may want to spend some time doing a word or topic study using the Bible as the source. There are many verses that will guide you in receiving God’s wisdom for your life on this issue.
