Book: Proverbs 14
“Simpletons are clothed with foolishness, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.”
Prisoners wear jail clothing, often bright orange. Police Officers wear a uniform. Doctor’s wear ‘scrubs’ in the hospital. Sports teams wear jerseys with their team name and logo on it. Clothing identifies to others what people are occupied with. In this proverb the prudent or wise person is wearing a crown. Who wears a crown? Royalty! Royalty has authority.
So the question today is what are you wearing? In the Kingdom of God we are called to be dressed in wisdom, His wisdom, all the time. If we do not have wisdom to wear then we are told to ask Him for it and He will give it to us (James 1:5). The King wants you to be dressed well!
But when you ask God for the uniform of wisdom, don’t waver in whether you are going to wear it or foolishness (everything else). He will not waste His wisdom on those who are not fully committed to wearing it. You can’t wear the shirt and tie of wisdom and then have the shoes of foolishness. Those shoes will take you places that wisdom is not allowed. It would confuse people around you.
Imagine a Police Officer partly wearing his uniform and partly a prisoner’s outfit. People would not be able to distinguish who he was. Does this person carry any authority or is he a crook? Can we trust him or is he going to try to rip us off? What is he trying to communicate?
In 1 Peter 2, the author says, “So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech … you are living stones that God is building into His spiritual temple…you are His holy priests … you are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” We are called royal holy priests. We need to be wearing the clothing that fits our calling and that is His wisdom. Since we are God’s very own possession how wrong it is to wear anything but what He gives us to wear. We cannot show others God’s goodness if we are dressed inappropriately.
Take time today to consider what you want to communicate. Does what you wear fit your spiritual calling? Thank the Lord for the wonderful outfit of wisdom He asks you to wear and accept it without any wavering!
